Resumo

O presente trabalho propõe uma análise gráfica de “artefatos históricos” (ALMEIDA; COUTINHO, 2012, p. 6530) que remetam ao estilo gráfico do Art Nouveau, impressos nos primeiros jornais dos imigrantes japoneses no Brasil, entre os anos de 1916 e 1923.  O objetivo é identificar, por meio de uma análise comparativa, as características recorrentes entre os estilos gráficos de Art Nouveau existentes na Europa (com destaque para a França), no Japão e no Brasil e a origem do Art Nouveau reproduzido nos jornais por esses imigrantes. Acredita-se que, com este trabalho, será possível alcançar o conhecimento de valores e significados culturais deixados pelos imigrantes japoneses por meio do design dos artefatos históricos preservados no tempo, como representantes da cultura material, além de levar, futuramente, a novas e mais complexas indagações sobre a temática.

Abstract

This paper proposes a graphic analysis of “historical artefacts” (ALMEIDA; COUTINHO, 2012, p. 6530) which remits to the graphic style of Art Nouveau, printed in the first newspapers from the Japanese immigrants in Brazil, between the years of 1916 and 1923. The objective is to identify, by means of a comparative analysis, the recurrent characteristics between the graphic styles of Art Nouveau prevalent in Europe (especially France), in Japan and in Brazil and the origin of Art Nouveau reproduced in the newspapers from these immigrants. It is believed that, with this paper, it will be possible to reach knowledge of cultural values and meanings left by the Japanese immigrants through the design of historical artefacts preserved in time, as representatives of material culture, apart from leading to new and more complexes questions about the matter, hereafter.
